Frequently Asked Questions

How old should my child be to start piano lessons?

Children as young as four and five years old can succeed with private piano lessons. An excited child teamed up with a motivated parent will create a great dynamic for successful lessons.

I am patient with your child(ren), and I am also excited for them. I work with them at their pace. I am both overly enthusiastic and super calm. Whatever mood is needed during the lesson, is what I will bring out. Every student is different, and every lesson is different! There is no cookie cutter formula that I will use in one particular week!

I DO ask a lot of questions! I want your student to tell ME what they think of their playing! Their responses tell me so much about what they’ve learned and what they need to know next. As every child responds differently, their responses are invaluable to my teaching.

I WILL use the correct terminology for musical notes and symbols. I WILL explain mathematical concepts when appropriate. This applies no matter how young the student is! Math and important vocabulary will start in the very beginning stages. Even if we’re using big words and numbers, we can still have a lot of fun.

I’m an adult! Am I too old to start? I have really bad habits from when I was a kid… Can I still take lessons?

I’m happy to work with adult students. You are never too old to start! And, your bad habits can be worked on. Are you motivated? You can do this!
